It was great to see so many University of Florida alumni (see above) at the 2015 Society of Composers, Inc. National Conference. I haven’t seen most of them in ten years or more. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing how their compositional voices have developed over the years, especially those who are finishing doctoral studies whose works I haven’t heard since undergrad! The highlight of the conference, at least for me, was the opera scenes concert. They were not only skillfully composed, but masterfully directed by Dr. Tony Offerle and beautifully performed by the UF Opera Workshop. The overall level of performance (guest performers) throughout the duration of the conference was exemplary and it is always appreciated when a composer’s new work is realized with excellent artistry.
